My name is Ximena, I’m a 17-year-old A-level student who wants to specialise in PR and marketing after I do my exams in May. I currently study French, Art and Business A-level and hope to study Fashion Management and Marketing in the future.

I have had the opportunity to take two weeks of work experience at Milk & Honey PR, and I have really enjoyed it. I have learned so much about PR that it has reinforced my conviction that this is something I want to do in the future.

I now have a much better understanding of what life is like in PR. At the start, I was really shy, as this is very new to me – but the more I went into the office the more I felt comfortable I felt in the work environment. Everyone greeted me so nicely and warmly, which I really liked as I heard that office people are usually a bit mean.

Throughout this experience, I have learnt a lot of skills that are very beneficial to the work environment and that are also useful in everyday life. For example, at the start of the two weeks, the majority of my emails were informal, and the team at Milk & Honey taught me how to properly structure my emails and make them more business-like. They have also taught me how to use PR tools, such as Muck Rack, which helps me to organise effectively when launching a product. I have really enjoyed using the application as it’s made everything easy and straightforward.

On the first day, I was asked to do a “News write-up”. I was so confused at first as my initial thought was that I’d have to write a news report, which worried me as English wasn’t my favourite subject at school. When I found out it involved looking up Milk & Honey associated news, however, I felt much more comfortable about it. I’ve really enjoyed doing this every day as it made me aware of what is going on globally in different subjects – and it was fun reading some articles that were a bit on the strange side. It’s a job where I’ve learned a lot about the world.

My time at Milk & Honey PR has honestly been a lot of fun and educational. It’s helped me better understand how the world works and what’s making the news. I’ve also really enjoyed making new friends who have shared some of their experiences at uni and after.

I just want to say thank you to the whole team for making me feel very welcome and supporting me whilst working on the company’s projects. I have enjoyed every minute of working here and will keep in touch with the people here and look out for Milk and Honey PR in the future.
