This isn’t my first time here. I worked here when I was 17 as a work experience student, some five years ago, and its been a blessing to be able to come back as an intern in the finance team. I am grateful for all the highly skilled people each taking time out of their schedule to help me get set-up and comfortable to settle into the team.
There is another reason why this is such a lovely company to work or intern in. That is the team culture. They treat everyone like family here; there is always someone to reach out their hand to help if you need it. It’s a culture you can tell they have been growing ever since they started as it’s ingrained in this beautiful workplace.
Work is celebrated, and everyone’s contribution too. They have fun events that boost company morale. For example, winning Wednesdays, which is where the whole team pauses to call out the success of others, moments of pride and stop to say thank you. It’s a lovely way to end the workday and motivate everyone to keep their energy up.
While I have only been here for a short stint, one month, it truly has taught me many life skills for employability. Getting a job is one the toughest tests for any graduate: employability is at its lowest level in years. So, getting to see what is really valued in the workplace and how to interact with all teams has been of incredible valuable.
I have worked under Jack Mullen, Group Finance Manager and all round financial super-star. He has shown me great patience to teach me and help guide me through tasks when I got stuck or struggled. He went the extra mile by building my month long internship around my university curriculum, making sure it was as enriching as possible. I feel like I have learned a great deal from my time here. From a better understanding of Excel, building staff planners, tracking expenses and calculating carbon emissions for external reporting, to broader understanding and appreciation of how line managers assess and look for new hires, starting with giving me a crash course on LinkedIn (thank you Hannah).
Lastly, the training they provide is vast and ticks all the boxes for me; I found the AI and cybersafe training so valuable. In fact, I had to use it in my second week when somebody targeted me with a phishing scam. Luckily, all the training I received allowed me to spot it, report it and stay safe. The AI training I got was both an online course and an expert teaching me in person. This was amazing as if I struggled with the course, Milk & Honey’s Head of AI, Sanjiv, was there to tell me the best tools and different approaches to use.
This whole experience has been amazing and refreshing, and I would recommend anyone trying to make a start in the professional world to get an internship here. The culture, the people and their skill is INCREDIBLE. Overall, I have greatly valued my time here and hope the amazing team all the best in the future.
